GLEN COVE, NY — New York City mayor-elect Eric Adams wants to recruit a Long Island congressman to become his deputy mayor. During a Saturday press conference in Queens, Adams revealed that he's trying to convince Rep. Tom Suozzi to join his new administration when he takes office next year. Suozzi — the former Nassau County Executive and mayor of Glen Cove — endorsed Adams for mayor back in April. In an interview with the New York Post, Suozzi said he is "very flattered" and plans to consider the offer over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. "I am very flattered that the mayor-elect would like me to help him in a big way to tackle the challenges in New York City," the Democrat said. "It's a testament to our great friendship and his confidence that I know how to help run a big government, get things done and solve problems. Lots to think about over Thanksgiving." This isn't the only position Suozzi is considering. The congressman — who represents most of Long Island's North Shore and some of Queens — recently said he was "seriously considering" running for governor of New York State. The Democratic gubernatorial primary already includes incumbent Kathy Hochul — who won when Andrew Cuomo resigned in 2021 — as well as New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and Attorney Gen. Letitia James.
