LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — COVID-19 booster shots are now available for adults without pre-existing conditions in Loudoun County. Appointments for COVID-19 booster doses are available at the Loudoun County Health Department's Dulles Town Center clinic. All adults are eligible for a booster shot if they had their second shot of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines at least six months ago. Those who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are eligible two months after their initial shot. Boosters are not currently recommended for anyone under 18. Children ages 5 and up are eligible for the two-dose Pfizer vaccine. The Moderna and J&J vaccines are limited to adults 18 and older The CDC recommended the boosters after scientific evaluation of safety data, vaccine effectiveness and the current state of the pandemic. "Booster shots have demonstrated the ability to safely increase people's protection against infection and severe outcomes and are an important public health tool to strengthen our defenses against the virus as we enter the winter holidays," CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said. "Based on the compelling evidence, all adults over 18 should now have equitable access to a COVID-19 booster dose." Even with the authorization of booster doses, Loudoun County Health Director Dr. David Goodfriend said vaccination efforts are still primarily focused on children. "We continue to see substantial transmission of the virus in our community—largely driven by infected children—so vaccinating children 5 and older as soon as possible remains a critical phase in our ongoing efforts to protect Loudoun residents and help bring an end to the pandemic." Appointments to receive a COVID-19 vaccine from the Loudoun County Health Department can be scheduled online. Those without internet access can call the county's information line at 703-737-8300. Vaccines are also available through pharmacies and healthcare providers throughout the county at locations like CVS, Walgreens, and Wegmans. More information about Loudoun County's response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic can be found on their website.
