MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A 12-year-old who was shot in the head and leg on Saturday evening in Hamilton is in stable condition, authorities said. According to the police, around 6:34 p.m. on Nov. 20, officers were dispatched to the area of Greenwood Avenue and Connecticut Avenue on a report of shots fired. On arrival, they found the child bleeding from the upper left leg. A bystander was applying pressure to the area and officers applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding, police said. EMS also arrived at the scene to treat the victim. The child was taken to Bristol-Meyer Squibb Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University in New Brunswick for further treatment. Authorities said the child is in stable condition but did not elaborate on the severity of the head injury. Officers spoke to a number of juvenile victims who said they were hanging out on the corner of Greenwood and Connecticut Avenue when they were approached by males in a silver/grey Honda. A passenger on the rear right seat rolled down his window and began yelling at the juveniles. When the juveniles started to run away, the passenger pulled out a handgun and started firing at them, police said. The car then fled the scene towards Hamilton Avenue. Police said they recovered 18 shell casings at the scene. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Det. Frank Palmieri of the Hamilton Police Division's Criminal Investigation Section at 609-581-4041 or the Hamilton Police Crime Tip Hotline at 609-581-4008. Thank you for reading.
