Point Beach Council Weighing Tighter Short-Term Rental Rules

POINT PLEASANT, NJ — Thanksgiving week is upon us, and while many of you may already be thinking ahead to turkey, there are a few things on tap before we get to carve the bird. In Point Pleasant Beach, the Borough Council is set to meet Tuesday at Borough Hall, 416 New Jersey Ave., with a caucus meeting at 6:30 p.m. and the general meeting at 7:30 p.m. The council agenda includes the appointment of a council member to fill the seat vacated by Bob Santanello, who resigned at the Oct. 19 meeting. Santanello's term is due to end Dec. 31 and he had not sought re-election. The Point Beach council also has a first reading scheduled for a proposed ordinance that would restrict short-term rentals in the borough — walking the fine line between allowing summer rentals and the three- and four-day rentals, or event one-night rentals that have been problems in so many towns. The council meeting can be viewed online as well. The Point Pleasant Beach Board of Education is set to meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the media center at G. Harold Antrim Elementary School. The agenda can be read here. In Point Pleasant, the Borough Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Borough Hall, 2233 Bridge Ave., Point Pleasant. In addition, the Zoning Board of Adjustment is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Borough Hall. Agendas had not been posted on the borough's website as of Sunday. The borough halls in both towns will be closed on Thursday for the Thanksgiving holiday. On Friday, Point Pleasant Beach kicks off the holiday season with its Christmas tree lighting event downtown. Also ahead, the Point Pleasant Borough High School football will continue its season, after the Panthers defeated Willingboro on Saturday to win the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 championship. Point Boro (10-1) advances to play Haddonfield on Dec. 4 at Rutgers University for the South Regional Group 2 championship.
