PARAMUS, NJ — It's been 28 years since Paramus Police Officer Vincent Brock died in the line of duty, but the local law enforcement community hasn't forgotten.
On Monday, flags are flying at half-mast at Paramus Police Headquarters in remembrance of Brock, who died on Nov. 22, 1993 in a motor vehicle accident while responding to a false 911 call reporting a shooting at the Garden State Plaza.
Brock left behind not only his work family, but also his wife, Diane, and three children, Timothy, Gregory and Lindsay.
He was a 12-year veteran of the department when he died in 1993, but made a huge impact during his dozen years of service, police officials said this week.
"Vinny was a key player in the growth of this department, taking active roles in the establishment of the Paramus Police Honor Guard, Communications Center and the Special Operations Team that later would become our Emergency Service Unit," the department said on Facebook.
"We will never forget the ultimate sacrifices made in the line of duty by all police officers across this nation, in particular Vinny's sacrifice on November 22, 1993. We ask that every officer on every day of the year take a moment to remember the sacrifice made by them and their families."
