AUSTIN, TX — When it's time for holiday cheer in Austin, many area community theaters and productions will put on their best Christmas performances. This holiday season, there will be several can't miss shows and performances that are perfect for the family, date night and gatherings with your closest friends. If theater isn't your thing, we found some movie theaters that will show holiday movies that are perfect just in time for winter. The Nutcracker Ballet by Ballet Austin View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ballet Austin (@balletaustin) From the scrumptious sets and costumes to the colorful characters you adore, Ballet Austin's annual production of "The Nutcracker" is Austin's favorite holiday tradition. The show will run at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4-5, Dec. 10-12, Dec. 17-19 and Dec. 21-23 at the Long Center, 701 W Riverside Drive, in Austin. Tickets start at $35 and are available online. What to expect: Hundreds of dancers perform Stephen Mills' enchanting choreography to Pyotr Tchaikovsky's magical score with live accompaniment from Austin Symphony Orchestra. The beloved Christmas play will return to the theatre Wednesday, Nov. 24 and will continue through Sunday, Jan. 2 at The Topfer at ZACH on 202 South Lamar Street in Austin. Tickets start at $25. The ELF Pub Run and screening kicks things off Tuesday, Nov. 30. Pub runners will meet at the Paramount before taking off to Easy Tiger on 7th to down a pretzel and a beer, and then it's back to the theatre for the film. Participants can expect a costume contest with prizes, drinks, snacks and good cheer. Family-friendly music shows coming to the theatre includes the "Young Voices of Austin presents Songs of Joy", "Family Christmas show", a Charlie Brown Christmas" and "Cowboy Christmas." Paramount Theatre also offers an annual series of Christmas films in December, including "It's a Wonderful Life" and "White Christmas," so be sure to check the schedule for upcoming flicks. The show will run from 7:30 p.m. Dec. 9-17 and a 2:30 p.m. performance on Dec. 18 at the Old Settlers Association of Williamson County. A 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. show will take place at the historic Driskill Hotel on December 19 as part of the Great Plays in Great Places series. "A Miracle on 34th Street Classic Radiocast" will be performed in the live radio show format by local actors and a foley sound artist. Single tickets are on sale now and start at $16.
