AUSTIN, TX — State Highway 71's westbound frontage road and FM 973 southbound were closed to traffic due to a crash that forced a hazmat spill Monday morning, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
The crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. Monday between two semi-trucks and the driver in the fuel truck was pinned inside at South FM 973 and State Hwy 71 Service Road under the overpass.

Around 5:07 a.m., paramedics had extricated the driver and was prepping them for transport to St. David's South Austin Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash closed off the intersection due to a HAZMAT spill for four hours. Fire crews remained on scene while the fuel was offloaded. Crews were able to clear the roads around 9 a.m.
The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport was asking passengers who were heading to the airport this morning to be aware of the ongoing situation that was impacting traffic near the terminal and to seek an alternate route.
