MONMOUTH CO, NJ — A horse that was missing from a farm in Millstone was found stuck deep in mud in Jackson Township and rescued on Sunday, according to the Millstone Township Uniformed Firefighters.
Because of the muddy soil, there was no access for heavy equipment to help with the rescue.
Firefighters had to work in a team with the horse owners, horse trainers, a veterinarian and "good Samaritans" to get the horse back to safety. Members of the Cassville Fire Department also assisted.
Once they were able to get the horse to stand, rescuers laid out heavy rubber mats to prevent the animal from sinking.
The horse had been missing since Friday afternoon. It was found by a hunter deep in the woods of Jackson Township.
