PITTSBURGH, PA — Veteran WTAE-TV reporter Katelyn Sykes is leaving the station after more than six years. Her last day will be Nov. 29.
Sykes made the announcement Monday via Facebook.
"It was always my dream to be a reporter and work in the city I grew up in," she wrote.
"I was blessed beyond belief when I was given that opportunity in 2015. Not only did my dream come true, but it granted me the opportunity to be home with my mom when she bravely battled brain cancer. I'll never forget how proud she was of me, and I've carried that with me everyday."
Sykes said the decision to not accept another contract wasn't easy, but one she had to make.
"I am forever grateful that I had the chance to make this dream a reality, and I have new goals I want to achieve," she said. "I look forward to what's ahead."
Sykes did not reveal any specific career plans.
The Shaler native graduated from West Virginia University and held reporting jobs in West Virginia and California before joining WTAE in 2015, according to her biography on the station website.
