CONCORD, NH — The Drug Enforcement Administration along with Gov. Chris Sununu and the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation are hosting a summit for students across New Hampshire on Tuesday. The "Drug Free is Up to Me" Virtual Youth Summit hopes to educate middle and high school students about the dangers of substance misuse, the benefits of healthy living, and the local treatment resources available in their communities, according to the orgs. The summit will be live-streamed to more than 14,000 middle and high school students in 22 school districts across the state. It will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. live-streamed from Studio Lab in Derry. View the event here. Bioscience Scholarships Available The Community College System of New Hampshire is partnering with the University of New Hampshire to offer a bioscience pathway scholarship for students that provides a package of academic, social, and financial support for the winners, according to officials. The Pathways to Professions in the Bioscience program will award 10 annual scholarships along with advice and research opportunities for a future career in life sciences. The students will receive $10,000 per year, for two years. Mentoring by teachers, career preparation, and advice will also be given to the students. The winners could also be eligible to receive another $5,000 toward an Ecoquest semester abroad program in New Zealand. For more information on this program, visit the P2Bio website. $3.8M In Coastal Resilience Grants Secured New Hampshire's federal delegation landed nearly $3.8 million in grants to support coastal resilience projects in an effort to protect from natural disasters. About $3.1 million will go to the University of New Hampshire to "build coastal resilience for the broader great marsh system of New Hampshire and Massachusetts" and another $700,000 will go to the NH Department of Environmental Services to analyze how to protect communities and tidal wetlands. U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen's office said the funding was a significant increase above prior years as the state receives funding to restore habitat and protect communities, building on planning grants in previous years. Funds Available From Catholic Diocese The Bishop's Charitable Assistance Fund is accepting grant applications for the winter 2021 review cycle. Qualified organizations should submit a completed application and all required info no later than the close of business on Dec. 15. Info and an online application are available on the Diocesan website: catholicnh.org/BCAF. Organizations must be 501(c)3s but can be any religious affiliation.
