LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange saw an increase in coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, the village had 1,981 cases since the pandemic's beginning, up 30 from the previous week. The week before last, the village experienced 23 new cases.
Until three weeks ago, the health department had been incorrectly lumping in the coronavirus cases from unincorporated La Grange Highlands into La Grange's number.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of recorded coronavirus-related deaths in La Grange increased by one in the last week, to 37. The latest deaths were Nov. 18, Sept. 17, Sept. 14, May 24, May 22, May 14 and Feb. 13. All the local deaths have been those who were over 50, according to the medical examiner.

The figure compares to 97 in Darien, 112 in DuPage County, 113 in Hinsdale, 115 in Elmhurst and La Grange Park, 121 in Clarendon Hills, and 125 in Western Springs and suburban Cook County.
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,763,866, a 1.3 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 26,227.
Nationally, 46.6 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 1.4 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 770,461 people have died from the virus in the United States.
