BUFFALO GROVE, IL — In honor of the inaugural Emergency Veterinarian Nurse Day, a Buffalo Grove veterinary nurse has been recognized for her work in a national contest. Sarah Brown, CVT, VTS-ECC, of Veterinary Specialty Center in Buffalo Grove, was chosen by a panel of her peers as "Emergency Veterinarian Nurse of the Year." The panel examined all submissions anonymously and chose the winner based on merit, officials said. Panel members determined that Brown has "exemplified compassion and caring with both patients and owners" and "acted as a leader in all kinds of situations," and that she's made good medicine a priority in all types of cases. Brown was announced as the winner in an Instagram post from Veterinary Emergency Group, one of 10 sponsors of Emergency Veterinarian Nurse Day. The holiday is held on Oct. 23 and is aimed at recognizing individuals who help save animals' lives, officials said on the event's website. "It takes a special person to be a Veterinary nurse, and being an Emergency Veterinary Nurse is even more rare," the website reads. "Veterinary Nurses are one of the often overlooked positions in most emergency hospitals, and they deserve a day to stand out and be celebrated for all that they do."
