DANVILLE, CA — Danville will kick off the holiday season Friday with the town's annual Lighting of the Old Oak Tree ceremony. Local officials will kick off the event, which runs from 5:15 to 8 p.m. Rumor has it that Santa Claus himself will be joined by a snow angel in leading the crowd in a countdown to the tree lighting at 6:30 p.m. The ceremony will be held rain or shine and begin with performances from choirs at San Ramon Valley and Monte Vista high schools and the Danville Girls Chorus, according to the town. Local businesses will remain open for shoppers. Drivers are advised to be cautious and expect delays amid several street closures in the area from 1 to 9 p.m. on Diablo Road.
