United Way Awards Grants to Support Flooding Recover Efforts

White Plains, NY - November 22, 2021 - The United Way of Westchester and Putnam announced that 10 nonprofits were granted about $50,000 collectively as part of the organization's crisis response to the recent flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida in Westchester County. The grants were awarded to nonprofits providing emergency relief to underprivileged, marginalized or ALICE (those who are employed but are living paycheck-to-paycheck) populations impacted or displaced by the Hurricane. "When thousands of families were displaced in communities such as Port Chester, Mamaroneck, Mount Vernon, and Yonkers, many nonprofits rose to the challenge and provided comfort and support," said United Way of Westchester and Putnam President and CEO Tom Gabriel. "That's why we're honored to award these grants to those nonprofits that directly supported our neighbors impacted by this most recent crisis." The United Way of Westchester and Putnam Community Disaster Recovery Fund, a collection of different funds administered by United Way of Westchester and Putnam, provides direct disaster recovery assistance to local nonprofits responding to colossal natural and human-made disasters. The nonprofits awarded grant funding are: Caritas of Port Chester Community Resource Center Eastchester Community Action Program Giving Tree Guidance Center Life Progressive Services Matthew Wallace Foundation New Rochelle Seventh-Day Adventist Church Port Chester Carver Center St. Frances African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church Food Pantry
