Description
Bring a woven chair in need of restoration and learn caning from an expert! This is a 100% hands-on class. No prior experience is needed. Students will learn by removing the old caning from a hand-woven hexagonal patterned chair -- the type with holes drilled thru the seats and/or backs. As the class progresses, students will learn the steps and techniques by observing demonstrations, watching others in the class, with guidance from the Instructor, work on their own chair. By the end of the classes, one seat or back will be completed. This is a 4 session class on Tuesdays and Thursdays: January 11, 13, 18, 20. 9am-1pm Students will work on their own chairs in need of repair. Please contact the Instructor before registering… there are several types of seat repair requiring different materials and strategies. In order to have the proper width of cane material, students will need to send a 3 x 3 inch piece of the old seat material, so the correct width will be available when the class begins. This particular class is for the hand-woven hexagonal patterned seats for which holes have been drilled and through which the cane material (of varying sizes) is woven. If your chair is a different type, please contact the Instructor… we may schedule a class for other types of weaving and materials, depending on the demand.
