Each Monday, the VBSPCA welcomes young readers to the shelter to read to sit our shelter animals for a memorable, educational experience.
A Tale for Two is an extension of our Listening Ears Program which pairs a young reader with an animal to make the experience of reading more fun. By bringing the readers to our shelter, our adoptable cats and dogs get to benefit from the positive presence of a child, boosting confidence in both the pet and the person. This In-shelter reading program is open to youth ages 6-13, and visits take place on Monday afternoons between 4pm and 5pm.
Due to current safety precautions and capacity restrictions, we are weekly Tale for Two registration to 2 families in the cattery and 2 families in the kennel. Visits must be scheduled in advance, and children are invited to bring their own books or they can choose from the VBSPCA library.
To reserve a space for your child, select either the cattery or kennel when you make your donation. We ask for a minimum donation of $5.
It is the mission of the Virginia Beach Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (VBSPCA) to create a more humane and responsible community by eliminating animal suffering while increasing human compassion.
