This is the ninth of 11 classes that make up the Mastering Farm Risk Management Series. This is a safe event! Participants will need to practice safe distancing and will be required to wear masks.ABOUT THE EVENT: This class is the ninth of 11 classes offered by the Mastering Farm Risk Management Program (MyFaRM). Farmers in the core group who commit to attending a minimum of eight in-person classes, including the kickoff class and all of the financial risk classes (three), will graduate with a 5-year risk management plan for their farm. MORE ABOUT MyFaRM: The MyFaRM program is free, and offers a series of classes covering all aspects of farm risk management, plus so much more! The MyFaRM program is an incredible opportunity for Lower Eastern Shore farmers to get comprehensive information and assistance in developing risk management plans that cover the unique needs of their individual farms and help them better manage the risks that come with farming in today’s world. MyFaRM instructors include experienced educators from the University of Maryland Extension, Maryland’s Agriculture Law Education Initiative, UMES Extension, Virginia State University, the Maryland Agricultural & Resource-Based Industry Corporation (MARBIDCO), MidAtlantic Farm Credit and other industry experts. Farmers with experience in diversifying their farms and developing niche markets for their products will also be presenters. The classes cover financial risk, legal risk, production risk, marketing risk and the risks associated with having farmworkers. There will be a 30-minute break in the middle of each class with refreshments provided, and all classes and events will require everyone to adhere to public health requirements. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Production Risk classes will provide instruction for students concerning managing production risks of various horticultural crops, including a variety of specialty crops. Following this class, participants will have the capacity to:  select plants;  develop and cultivate plants;  perform pest and disease management techniques; and  harvest and process plants.
