HARTFORD, CT — For the fifth time in the last nine years, St. Joseph High School took home the Class L girls soccer championship, as the Cadets blanked Simsbury 2-0 Sunday at Dillon Stadium in Hartford.
Neither team scored in the opening half, but St. Joseph broke through less than nine minutes after intermission on a goal by Sara Parker, assisted by Alexa Pino. Near the midpoint of the half, Pino added an insurance tally, set up by Mary Lundregan.
Emily Robinson stopped two shots to earn the shutout in goal for the Cadets. Madeline Brooke had seven saves for the Trojans.
St. Joseph won its seventh state title overall, but first since 2017.
