Here are the top stories in Roanoke today: A former Roanoke doctor has been sentenced to three years in prison for writing prescriptions that mixed powerful painkillers into narcotic cocktails that killed at least four of her patients. 70-year-old Verna M. Lewis pleaded guilty last year to dispensing controlled substances without a legitimate medical purpose. As part of her sentence, Lewis was fined $10,000 and agreed never to practice medicine again. (8News)More than 600,000 lights will shine across Explore Park beginning tonight and running through December 30. The 3rd annual "Illuminights Winter Walk of Lights" is returning to the county and ready to welcome thousands of guests over the next six weeks. Organizers said there have been at least 40,000 visitors each year since it began in 2019.
