EAST HAVEN, CT — Police said they are investigating a reporting shooting in the parking lot of Rumbas Café and Bar, 679 Main Street. At 2:57 a.m. Saturday, police responded to Yale-New Haven Hospital for a report of a gunshot victim who had been taken to the hospital in a private vehicle after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The victim's injuries were non-life threatening. The 25-year-old victim told police that he was in the rear parking lot of Rumbas Café and Bar in a vehicle when he was approached by two men wearing facemasks who attempted to rob him, police said. The victim said he was asked to give up his money and a designer belt, but decided to fight back which prompted a scuffle, police said. The victim said one of the suspects pulled out a black handgun and shot him, police said. "During the time frame in which the male victim provided, several teams of officers were in the area on several different unrelated details focused on crime suppression and bar closings," police said in a news release. "During this alleged incident nobody approached officers looking for help and officers in the area did not hear a scuffle or gun shots." "Investigators canvassing the area in search of a crime scene were unsuccessful," police said in a news release. "At this time, investigators were also unable to locate any valuable video depicting the incident. The East Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division responded to the scene and have taken over the investigation." Any witnesses who may have been in the area during this incident are urged to contact Detective Monique Colbert at [email protected] or Detective John Fraenza at [email protected]
