Numerous reports indicate that the pilot was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa for treatment and no other passengers were in the plane when it went down.
A photo of the crash shows the back end of the plane up in the air, with the nose tipped over into a ditch or gulley off the side of Highway 5 near Bear Creek Road, just north of the Sawmeal restaurant in Brent.
Craig Baird, the photographer who snapped a picture of the plane following the crash, pointed out to Patch that the plane appears to have landed on the road. He went on to explain that he observed several road signs that had been knocked down leading to crash site.
The crash will now be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
This is a developing story. Tuscaloosa Patch will have more details as they come available.
