Here are the top stories in Atlanta today: Authorities are searching for the man they believe owned the bag in which a weapon was discharged at a main security checkpoint in Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Saturday afternoon. Police say passenger Kenny Wells, 42, ran away with the weapon in hand, terrifying travelers and temporarily grounding flights. Wells is wanted on warrants accusing him of carrying a concealed a weapon at a commercial airport, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, discharging a firearm and reckless conduct, according to Atlanta Police Department Airport Precinct Commander Reginald L. Moorman. Three injuries have so far been reported, the TSA said. In 2021 alone, TSA officers have detected over 450 firearms at ATL checkpoints. (Atlanta Patch)A man died after a shooting near Berean Christian Academy and Lincoln Cemetery in northwest Atlanta Saturday afternoon, police say. After Atlanta police responded to a physical fight in the 2600 block of Hood Avenue around 3:45 p.m., one man was taken to a hospital, where he later died. According to the APD's preliminary investigation, the physical fight escalated to gunfire, during which the man was injured. Atlanta police have not released the victim's name or details about the suspect. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)New affordable housing is coming to the southwest Atlanta neighborhood of Oakland City. Townhomes priced at less than $200,000 are coming on the market, part of the Avenue at Oakland City development on Tucker Avenue. The development in one of the fast-gentrifying parts of Atlanta was led by the affordable housing group Atlanta Land Trust. Plans are to build 36 units with 2- and 3-bedroom homes in a total of five buildings specifically for families earning less than 80 percent of the area median income. Eligibility is limited to people who are employed, disabled or senior citizens.
