Learn the fundamentals of Olympic weightlifting with Coach Eric David of the Rx Weightlifting Club! Come and learn the olympic lifts in a celebratory, non-competitive environment! Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting (officially named Weightlifting), is the kind you see in the Olympics. In this sport, athletes compete by lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead (in two specific ways: the snatch and clean and jerk), with each athlete vying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Outside of competition, Weightlifting is a fantastic way of building whole-body power, strength and mobility, and the technical elements of the lifts can be fascinating! OLY101 workshops, while geared towards the beginner, are suitable for all levels - even experienced athletes have a lot to learn by returning to the basics! Through this series, Coach Eric David (BSES, CACWC, CrossFit Lv.2, RWL, USAW Lv.2) will teach you the biomechanics of the two lifts (using visual diagrams on the whiteboard and live demonstrations), practice the basic techniques with light weight, and finally, do some real lifting with beginner-friendly complexes. Date: Saturday, December 4 Time: 10:00am-11:30pm Cost: $25 (Free for Rx Weightlifting Club members) No training experience required!
