Here are the top stories today in Bedford: A stealth British fighter jet, with many components that were made in New Hampshire, crashed Wednesday in the Mediterranean Sea. UK submarines and divers are racing against time, and the Russians, to recover the £100 million F-35 jet with "top-secret" stealth technology, reported the Daily Mail. The pilot successfully ejected before the crash and returned to the HMS Queen Elizabeth, a spokesperson for the defense ministry said. The news report suggested that the recovery operation involved divers and mini-submarines urgently searching for the jet at an undisclosed location in the Mediterranean Sea. The radar of the F-35 is extremely sensitive, allowing the jet to fly "unseen" in hostile territory— something Russia would find valuable. Engineers and scientists from New Hampshire helped create components of the stealth F-35 British jet. (The Union Leader)Keep bird feeders in until Dec. 1st. That's what New Hampshire Fish and Game officials recommend, as some New Hampshire bears haven't hibernated for the winter yet due to the unusually warm weather this fall. Bears, who are highly intelligent animals, are still searching for the food they need to prepare for winter. New Hampshire Fish and Game biologist Andrew Timmins said bears have learned how to "lift handles" to open unlocked car doors to look for food, following their sensitive noses. Some bears may smash car windows in search of food, but they are not trying to be destructive, said Timmins, who handles complaints about bears. Bears aren't the problem, he said. People are not modifying their behavior to peacefully coexist with bears. He added, when humans interact with bears, it "usually ends badly for the bear." State officials remind residents in Bedford and other New Hampshire residents to keep bird feeders inside until Dec. 1 and to not leave food in cars.
