I started out ten years ago by hiring a patent attorney, but then learned to do it myself and am now handling all searching, drafting, filing, and maintenance for my U.S. PTO patents and trademarks, which the patent office lets you do if you want to. I'm not an attorney or patent agent; just an inventor and small business person. So I wanted to offer my help to you on an hourly basis, to show you how you can: Trademarks: o Start your own USPTO account. o Search the USPTO for trademarks that might be similar to yours. o Decide what form your trademarks should be for best results. o File your own trademarks. o Handle the periodic maintenance filings for your trademarks. Patents: o Decide if you need a design or utility patent. o Search online for anything which might cause problems for your patent claims. o Decide what claims your invention should be for best results. o Write your abstract, description, claims, and summary, and have your drawings completed. o File your patent application. o Handle the periodic maintenance filings for your patents.
