Join Green Cambridge's Friends of Alewife Reservation for a post Thanksgiving trail maintenance and exploration day! Rain date: 11/28/21 Alewife Reservation, one of the largest urban wilds in metro-Boston, is home to dozens of species of birds, deer, coyotes, muskrats, turtles, and more. Come join us on maintaining the longest natural surface nature trail in Cambridge! The Little Pond Trail is a one mile long trail in Alewife Reservation that is a secret to many. Our trail maintenance and cleanup days are an opportunity to tour the trail and make improvements to it. The wet summer season allow for a lot of vegetation growth that needs to be trimmed. After brief introductions, safety notes, and an overview of this urban wild, volunteers will don gloves and tools to clear out the growth in the trail for easier access. The meeting point for this event is the DCR parking lot by the sign. This is within walking distance of the Alewife Station. Please bring your own gloves and wear pants (not shorts). We also ask that if you have tools, to bring them and share with others that may not have them. This includes loppers, hedge trimmers, hand saws, clippers etc. We also need some downed trees to be cut by chainsaw. If you have a chainsaw and have the proper training to use it, we welcome your help. Though please contact [email protected]. This event will be held pending weather with a rain date on Sunday. We will follow all of the latest COVID guidelines from DCR. As such, advanced registration is required and safety waivers must be reviewed and signed prior to the event. We ask that if you are not feeling well to please stay home. High school service credits can be awarded if desired. Please reach out to the event organizers if you need hours verified for this event.
