Description

Kids can learn the role of pinecones in our environment while making cute Christmas decorations! In this workshop, we will be making pinecone pals! Projects are from the book “Snips & Snails & Walnut Whales”. Kids will learn the role of pinecones. How they drop hundreds of seeds while on the tree and then their cones. Squirrels and birds eat up the seeds that don’t grow into trees. And we’ll be using the left-over cones! We will do three separate crafts. First is Pine Cone elves, where we will give them shoes, heads and hair to prepare them for faithful service to Santa. Next is Feathered Friends. We will use Sugar Pine Cones that can reach almost a foot long to create a flying bird! Finally is the Wild Bird Feeder. With peanut butter and sunflower seeds, we will fill a pinecone for birds to eat through the winter. Watch through the window when it’s too cold to go out in the snow. Your neighborhood birds will thank you! (Children with Peanut Allergies may opt out of the Wild Bird Feeder project. Projects recommended for ages 3+)
