Be sure to follow the artists on Instagram for images and updates on the mural project: A little project background...The Sacramento Office of Arts + Culture, in partnership with your fellow community members, has commissioned local artists to create a community-based mural for the exterior wall of the business center at 4611 Freeport Blvd. A community mural project allows an artist to collaborate with a community to achieve a result neither the artist nor the community could have achieved on their own. This mural is inspired by the wonderful community members of Hollywood Park and District 5. From our conversations it became clear that two specific values were highlighted. The first being love and stewardship for the land and nature, sharing one's home-grown bounty, and creating a sanctuary for birds and other backyard visitors. It is also important to represent the mixed local cultures, immigrants, and indigenous tribes (specifically the Nisenan) in Hollywood Park. The mural elements are plants, birds, butterflies, and bees chosen specifically to represent both personal connection to the neighborhood and mixed local cultures. Each element has a dual connection linking these specific community values. To learn more about each location and the artists, click here (PDF).
