Description

Come to “Berries, Bark, and Buds Winter Walk” and enjoy a wintry mid-morning walk at Swarthmore’s Little Crum Creek Park! This walk is co-sponsored by the Friends of Little Crum Creek Park (FoLCCP) and the Chester Ridley Crum (CRC) Watersheds Association. Andrew Bunting, Vice President of Public Gardens and Landscapes at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, and Sheila Magee, an alumna of Swarthmore College who spent 10 years as a gardener on the College Grounds Crew, will lead the walk. Sheila is Vice President of the Board of FoLCCP, of which Andrew is also a member. Participants will learn to: Identify berries and plants when there are no leaves;Identify invasive plants in the winter, when they are easier to remove;Learn about the interesting elements of the largest public park in Swarthmore, which includes a winding segment of Little Crum Creek and a wetlands area, along with a multitude of native trees, plants, and wildlife; and,Get ideas for what decorative items you can bring in from your own backyard to celebrate the holidays! This walk is FREE but registration is required. There will be hot chocolate and cookies, provided by FoLCCP. Please wear comfortable shoes – boots if the ground is wet. We hope you can join us! CRC's mission is to support, encourage and promote the enjoyment, restoration, conservation, protection and prudent management of the natural resources of the Chester, Ridley and Crum Creek Watersheds.
