Description
MINEOLA, NY — A man who was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train Tuesday has been identified.
A Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesperson told Patch that Chesnel Veillard, 81, of New Cassel, was trespassing on the tracks near the Mineola station when he was hit by a train on LIRR's Main Line.
It appears that Veillard had dementia and went missing hours before he was struck by the train.
On Wednesday, New York State officials wrote in a Facebook post that Veillard was last seen at 1 a.m. on Tuesday in New Cassel.
It is not immediately clear why he was on the train tracks. An investigation is underway.
