STAMFORD, CT — The victim in Wednesday's road rage assault that occurred on Cold Spring Road in Stamford has died, the Stamford Police Department said Friday afternoon. Michael Frank Gentile, 71, of Stamford, died late Thursday night, according to Lt. Thomas Scanlon of the SPD. Police said around 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 17, the department received calls about a fight on Cold Spring Road near the area of Long Ridge Road. Officers found two cars in the roadway, with Gentile on the ground unconscious, police said; the Stamford Fire Department and Stamford Emergency Medical Services immediately rendered aid. Gentile was taken to Stamford Hospital "in grave condition," police said. Capt. Richard Conklin of the SPD said there was a minor car accident between the two parties before the assault took place. No further details on the accident have been released. A section of Cold Spring Road was closed for several hours on Wednesday. After an investigation, police said Wednesday they arrested Emmanuel Matias, 26, of Yonkers, N.Y., and charged him with second-degree assault of an elderly person. He was being held on a $250,000 bond. "The Stamford Police Department Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate this incident in conjunction with the State's Attorney's Office," Scanlon said Friday afternoon following Gentile's death.
