Description

VIRGINIA — CVS Pharmacy plans to close 900 of its U.S. stores in the next three years, though how this will affect Virginia stores is not yet known. The company announced Thursday it will "reduce store density in certain locations" as company leaders evaluate "changes in population, consumer buying patterns and future health needs." A CVS spokesperson told Patch store closings will begin at the end of the first quarter of 2022. The spokesperson said the company will provide more details, including which locations will close, when the information is available. The pharmacy chain has 355 stores in Virginia, in 126 different communities. The company said employees at the shuttered stores will be offered "roles in other locations or different opportunities as part of its overall workforce strategy." CVS is creating new store formats to "serve as community health destinations," according to Thursday's news release.
