BOSTON, MA — A car fire inside the Sumner Tunnel caused the tunnel to close for 45 minutes, Massachusetts State Police told Patch.
A fire broke out in a car inside the tunnel at around 8:15 a.m., according to MSP records. Crews extinguished the fire, and removed it from the tunnel. The tunnel was briefly shut down causing major delays on Route 1A South, according to NECN.
All lanes of the tunnel reopened at 9 a.m., an MSP spokesperson said.
