STREET, MD — Dublin Laundromat in Street has sustained $50,000 in damage after a faulty dryer caught on fire Friday afternoon. A customer had left after placing clothes in a dryer, and when he returned at around 12:40 p.m., he saw a fire within that dryer's drum, officials from the Office of the State Fire Marshal said. The customer attempted to extinguish the fire with two extinguishers from a nearby Dollar General, and Darlington Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene as well. In 5 minutes, 35 firefighters had controlled the fire. It was contained to a single dryer with "moderate extension to two other dryers and cabinetry," officials said. Dublin Laundromat, located at 3522 Conowingo Road, Street, sustained $25,000 in structural damage and another $25,000 in content damage, officials said. Neither a smoke alarm nor a fire alarm were present in the building, according to the fire marshal's office. No injuries or deaths were reported.
