Description
BEL AIR, MD — Bel Air police officers will escort Retired Deputy Chief John Harkins to his final resting place on Friday, and the department is asking for patience with traffic delays.
Police expect delays around the intersection of Main Street and Broadway "early Friday afternoon," they said on Facebook.
They'll be honoring Harkins, a 31-year veteran of the Bel Air Police Department who died on Wednesday, Nov. 10.
Harkins retired from the department as chief deputy in 2002, and his obituary said he "received numerous letters of commendation and awards during his career and rose through the ranks of the Department based on merit."
His family is asking for contributions made in his name to Moose Heart, a residential childcare facility.
