NEWARK, NJ — A shooting claimed a 17-year-old teen's life and injured another victim in Newark on Tuesday, authorities said. Newark police responded to the Oscar Miles Housing Complex on the 100-block of Court Street, finding two victims with gunshot wounds, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety. Emergency responders transported both victims to University Hospital. Altamir Mayweather, 17, of Newark, was pronounced dead at 3:38 p.m. on Nov. 17. The other victim survived; his name wasn't released. No arrests have been made as of Friday, authorities said. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the shooting.
