HARDING TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Newark man pleaded guilty Tuesday to stealing a vehicle last year in Harding Township. The state will recommend that Malik Carter serve 4.5 years in prison.

On Dec. 15, a Harding Township resident reported their 2018 black Porsche Macan Turbo stolen from their home overnight. The investigation identified Carter as the suspect through digital forensics.
The Essex County Sheriff's Office apprehended Carter Dec. 16 after he exited the stolen vehicle and fled.
Judge Ralph E. Amirata accepted Carter's guilty pleas to third-degree auto theft and fourth-degree resisting arrest. The state will recommend Carter, 21, serve three years in prison for theft and 18 months for resisting.
Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 7.
