SAN FRANCISCO — A San Francisco police officer shot and killed a person Friday morning as officers were investigating a report of a man armed with a knife in the city's South of Market neighborhood. Around 8:05 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call regarding a person with knife in the 900 block of Folsom Street, police said. At the scene, officers contacted a male suspect inside a residential building — at which point an officer shot him. The injured man was taken to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, where he died, according to police. Police have released few details about the shooting but said more information will be released once it becomes available. Per city policy, the officer-involved shooting will be investigated by the District Attorney's Office, the Police Department's Investigative Services Division, the Police Department's Internal Affairs Division, the Department of Police Accountability, and the Medical Examiner's Office. In addition, the Police Department will hold a town hall meeting to discuss the shooting with the residents within 10 days. Copyright © 2021 Bay City News, Inc. All rights reserved.
