MERCER COUNTY, NJ — Mercer County and New Jersey has seen an uptick in coronavirus cases. But what does that mean for the county? This week the County reported a 60 percent increase in COVID-19 cases. As of Friday, Mercer County reported 64 new coronavirus cases, but no related deaths. The cumulative total of coronavirus cases now stands at 37,192 with 967 confirmed deaths since the pandemic began last year. Mercer County has "moderate" COVID activity, according to New Jersey's latest COVID-19 activity report (week ending Oct. 16). The determination is based on metrics such as case rate, positivity rate, and prevalence of COVID-like illnesses. Meanwhile, many townships across the County have started administering the pediatric COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 5 and up. State officials said that the number of children ages 5 to 11 years old who are getting vaccinated increased five-fold. The number of children ages 5 to 11 who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine hit 47,390 on Monday, up from 9,116 students in that age group who were vaccinated as of Nov. 8.
