First, today's weather: Breezy in the afternoon. High: 64 Low: 41. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: A Sacramento Police K-9 who was stabbed returned to work yesterday. Ranger was stabbed earlier this month in the Tahoe Park area as police were trying to arrest a suspect. He was welcomed back with care packages and treats. Welcome back, Ranger! (Good Day Sacramento)Dramatic helmet cam video shows firefighters on the roof of a Citrus Heights home fighting a fire that erupted there overnight on Thursday night. One homeowner was taken to the hospital. Reports were that the homeowner is going to be OK. The cause of the fire is under investigation. (CBS Sacramento)Sacramento's Diversity Index – or the calculated "probability that two people chosen at random will be from different race and ethnic groups" – increased from 75% to 77% between 2010 and 2020, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. While there are smaller cities, by the numbers, that are more diverse, Sacramento is tied with Oakland and Jersey City, NJ, as the most diverse cities in the nation with 200,000 residents or more. Sacramentans are giving people by nature and I know we will fill those spots! (Rocklin and Roseville Today) A Sacramento business owner said he almost fell victim to what he called a smooth scam. Hal Dasinger said a caller claimed the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) had an issue processing recent payments, and to avoid losing power, he had to send in an overdue deposit of $2,600 via Zelle. "One of the things that really got me was I've talked to a lot of online phone scammers trying to get me to do one thing or another, and when you start to push back, usually they get abusive.," Dasinger said. "These guys were as cool as the other side of the pillow. They were super professional." SMUD said they will never demand cash, wire, or money card payments. If in doubt, call the number on your bill to see if it's a scam. (CBS Sacramento) Saturday's events in Sacramento: Free COVID-19 vaccine clinic - Twin Rivers Unified School District.
