PITTSBURGH, PA — Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is the second-winningest coach in team history and has never had a losing season. Critics will note that he also hasn't won a playoff game since the 2016 season, but that hasn't prevented him from becoming one of the highest paid coaches in professional sports.
Tomlin makes $11.5 million annually, according to Sportico, a sports business website. That ties him with Greg Popovich of the NBA's San Antonio Spurs for the fifth-highest salary.
Steelers owner Art Rooney II doesn't seem to mind paying Tomlin such a high amount. Rooney was effusive in his praise of the coach when signing him to his most recent contract extension in April.
"Mike is one of the most successful head coaches in the National Football League, and we are confident in his leadership to continue to lead our team as we work to win another championship," Rooney said at the time.
Tomlin is signed through the 2024 season.
