Press release from the Sonoma County Government: November 18, 2021 For Immediate Release CA District Attorney Ravitch stated, "Far too many individuals continue to drive impaired in Sonoma County. Choosing to drive impaired is choosing to put other lives in danger. My office will continue to aggressively prosecute any and all such cases, and will seek lengthy sentences for any repeat offender." On February 12, 2021, Moreno-Botello was observed parking near the Joe Rodota Trail off Highway12 before stumbling out of the vehicle to urinate. A paramedic called police after contacting Moreno-Botello and informed them that he had fled on foot down the Joe Rodota Trail. Police found Moreno-Botello hiding approximately 45 minutes later, at which point he tried to walk away from the officers. A blood alcohol test revealed a.24% blood alcohol concentration. Moreno-Botello was previously convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol nine times, five of which were felonies. Despite this, the three year sentence imposed is the maximum allowable under California law. The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Kyle McCauley and investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
