ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a dog bite, a chronic nuisance situation, a gun found in a rental car, unwanted messages, a hospital confrontation and fraudulent invoices from a business. Here is information from the latest reports: Dog bite A woman told police that while walking her dog in the 300 block of Marion Street, a dog ran out of a house and attacked her dog. The woman suffered a small cut and scratch on her right palm. Teri L. Vlasak, 57, of Elmhurst, was ticketed on charges of having a dog at large and having no valid rabies registration for the dog. An animal bite report was sent to DuPage County Animal Control. Chronic nuisance A chronic nuisance warning was given to a resident Monday in the 800 block of Poplar Avenue. Gun found in rental The manager of Enterprise Leasing, 896 N. York St., told police Monday that a handgun was found beneath the driver's seat of a rental vehicle. The gun was cleared through a database and taken to the police station. The owner was contacted and went to the station. The owner verified ownership and provided valid firearm owner's identification and concealed carry cards. Police then gave the gun to the owner. Unwanted messages A resident in the 700 block of Cambridge Avenue told police Monday that she received several unwanted messages from Nov. 7 to Nov. 10 and would like the suspect to cease all communications. The person was described as male, 14 to 16 years old, and having black hair. An investigation is pending. Hospital confrontation A man at Elmhurst Hospital struck a public safety officer and a nurse about 6 p.m. Monday. One of the victims said that as he attempted to restrain the combative man, the man punched him in the face. A police officer saw a severe cut on the victim's chin and swelling to his face. Charges are pending. Snagging lines The operator of a dump trailer snagged a ComEd power line and caused damage to power lines and two utility poles in the 900 block of North York Street. License plate stolen A license plate was stolen from a loaner car Oct. 19 at Elmhurst BMW, 500 W. Lake St. The plate was used on vehicles involved in criminal activity in Chicago. Fraudulent invoices Insulation Partners, 386 N. York St., told police Tuesday that someone had sent fraudulent invoices to customers since Sept. 1. The business knew of no customer who sent money to the suspect. Identity theft A resident in the 100 block of Linden Avenue told police Tuesday that someone used her personal information and withdrew money from her bank account Sept. 10. An investigation is pending. Online fraud A resident in the 300 block of Elm Avenue responded to a Craigslist advertisement for the sale of three tickets to a sporting event. The victim sent the money through the Zelle payment application to pay for the tickets. The resident never received them. The ad has since been removed.
