ARCADIA, CA — An hourslong standoff with the Arcadia Police Department ended late Thursday afternoon when a 31-year-old man was arrested without incident, authorities said. Michael Jonathan Price was arrested on suspicion of elder abuse and held on $250,000 bail, police said. Authorities accused Price of beating his 71-year-old mother. Officers found Price's mother with multiple head injuries in a house in the 400 block of East Camino Real Avenue just after 9:40 a.m. The woman was hospitalized; her condition remained unknown. Price was outside the house at the time, according to authorities. Arcadia police said he did not respond to commands, went inside the house and barricaded himself. He remained in the house as police tried to negotiate with him, the Arcadia Police Department said. Several residents in the neighborhood were evacuated around 2 p.m., police said. They were able to return to their homes just before 3 p.m. East Camino Real Avenue between Second and Sixth avenues was temporarily closed-off to traffic as police dealt with the standoff.
