Description
RIVERSIDE, NY — The dream of homeownership will soon become a reality for two families in need in Southampton Town.
The Southampton Town Housing Authority and Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk have teamed up to raze a dilapidated, abandoned, and unsafe house on Old Quogue Road in Riverside — and begin the transformation to create two forever homes.
A demolition ceremony will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at 73 Old Quogue Road, with work set to begin on the adjoining lot at 69 Old Quogue Road in Riverside.
Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk is currently vetting potential families who will qualify to live in the new homes.
The houses are the first of five that Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk and the Southampton Housing Authority will jointly develop in Riverside. The home at 73 Old Quogue Road is being sponsored by Riverhead Building Supply, a supporter of Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk, the organization said.
Through Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk's Homeownership Program, families chosen will put in 300 hours of "sweat equity," helping to build their future homes — and homes for others in the program. In addition, those chosen are required to participate in financial preparation classes, and volunteer for community service.
