Happy Saturday, neighbors! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note. First, today's weather: Sunny to partly cloudy. High: 57 Low: 41. Here are the top stories in Atlanta today: A food delivery driver was shot and killed early Friday morning in southwest Atlanta. According to Atlanta police, the as-yet unidentified 41-year-old delivery driver was picking up an order just after 1 a.m. Friday at Oak Street Eats on Oak Street near the intersection with Lee Street and the I-20 entrance ramp. The driver got into an argument with another man, police say, shots were fired and, while paramedics rushed the delivery driver to Grady Memorial Hospital, he did not survive. The shooting occurred near a BP gas station that police say may have surveillance video that can assist with the investigation. Anyone with information concerning the shooting is asked to call the APD. (FOX 5 Atlanta)After noticing an increase in crimes against people using popular social media marketplace platforms to buy or sell items, the Atlanta Police Department is warning shoppers of online scams ahead of the holidays. While the bulk of transactions via social media are legitimate and problem-free, the APD cited several examples of criminals turning naïve buyers into easy victims: In separate instances, owners of a dirt bike and an ATV met with potential buyers, who fled on the vehicles; and a fraudulent cashier's check was provided for a luxury SUV, discovered only after the title was signed over to the buyer. Anyone who has seen something suspicious or been the victim of an online crime in the city of Atlanta is encouraged to call 911 or Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477). (CBS46 News Atlanta) Atlanta's Christkindl Market is back and in a new location after being canceled last year. The city's largest winter festival opened Friday in the Buckhead Village shopping district, around the corner from Buckhead Avenue and North Fulton Drive. It will stay open through Jan. 2, 2022, with a German Christmas village featuring 80 vendor booths selling holiday gifts and décor as well as German food and beverages, including Glühwein, hot chocolate, spiced cider, pretzels, schnitzel, bratwurst, and more. Presented by the German American Cultural Foundation, attendance is free. (AtlantaOnTheCheap.com) CVS Health officials announced the closing of 900 stores nationwide over the next three years in an effort to focus on offering more health care services and expanding its digital services. The closings – representing about 10 percent of the pharmacy chain's more than 9,000 stores – are a response to evolving "consumer buying patterns." Although the fate of Georgia's 346 CVS stores may not be known for months, a CVS spokesman said, "Changes to our store footprint won't start until the end of Q1 2022." (Atlanta Patch)If shopping for Thanksgiving dinner ingredients in busy grocery stores this weekend sounds unappealing, do something different this year: Consider dining out, or picking up ready-to-feast Turkey Day meals. A variety of Atlanta restaurants will be offering dine-in and take-out meals Thursday, lightening the load for countless cooks while broadening the culinary horizon for anyone open to something other than turkey and dressing on Thanksgiving. Reservations are a must and going fast, so don't be a turkey - make plans soon.
