Learn how to create your own hair art pieces using traditional patterns and methods, and make your own holiday hair art Christmas ornament! Did you know that the Victorians created hair art for more than just remembering passed loved ones? Hair was used to honor and celebrate friends and family, both living and deceseased, near and far. Hair would be collected and used to make art pieces in the form of stylized family trees, jewelry, and home decor pieces. During this workshop, you will learn how to make some traditional hair art shapes using to create your own Victorian style hair art. In the end, you'll take home a beautiful ornament ready to be hung on your Christmas tree or used to decorate your home year round! Fee: $45 (Members $40) Workshop  limited to 12 people. Must register in advance. SUPPLIES: All supplies are included in your workshop fee. Hair will be provided for you to use. If you would like to bring your own hair to use, you are welcome to do so, and we suggest hair strands be at least 12 inches for best results. WORKSHOP LEADER: Leading this workshop is Clary McCory, a seamstress and enthusiast of Victorian handcrafts. Clary holds a BFA in Costume Design and Fashion History. She has been learning the practice of hair art since 2018, and currently runs a jewelry business with a focus on embroidered memorial lockets inspired by the Victorian era. COVID-19 PROTOCOLS: Per Alameda County's Public Health guidelines, all visitors are required to wear a face covering while inside Camron-Stanford House. Visitors will not be allowed to participate without a face mask, no exceptions. Workshop is purposefully limited to a small group to give attendees a safe space to learn, work, and enjoy during the workshop. --- REFUND POLICY: If you are no longer able to attend this workshop, please lst us know right away. (Image courtesy of Clary McCoy) The Camron-Stanford House is the last of the beautiful 19th century mansions that once surrounded Lake Merritt and was the home to five influential families before becoming the first museum in the City of Oakland. The restored home helps visitors time travel to the 1880s and enter meticulously recreated living spaces. In addition, the house presents various exhibits throughout the year that focus on aspects of Victorian life and culture.
