Thanksgiving Holiday event to supply the food for over 60 Afghan evacuees over the holiday season! It's happening fast! Next week between Tuesday and Wednesday alone, Exodus Refugee will be welcoming over 60 Afghan neighbors who will begin to build their new life in Indianapolis. Before they arrive, we need help to accomplish the Herculean effort of purchasing culturally appropriate food for all of these families and individuals! We need help now more than ever before! There will be two phases to this event: Phase 1: Purchasing the food! Date: Monday, November 22nd, 2021 Time: 9:00AM to 1:00PM Location: Meijer (5349 W Pike Plaza Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46254) Slots for this opportunity: 15 individuals Task (Please read fully): Purchase culturally appropriate food items for our family. Volunteers who sign up for this opportunity will meet with a local contact to gather up and purchase the food. The contact's name is AJ Nuristani (706.905.1724). Important note: AJ is NOT an Exodus staff member, and he SHOULD NOT be contacted prior to Monday, November 22nd at 9AM. Please plan on spending a significant amount of time time shopping for food, standing, or pushing carts (they can get heavy). If we cannot find everything that we need at one location, we will let volunteers know the logistics of traveling to a second shopping location. Important note: Volunteers WILL NOT be required to purchase ANY food on the behalf of these families. Exodus will send someone to pay for all of the food. Finally, please plan on helping to transport this large amount of food to the Exodus office (located at 2457 E. Washington St. Ste. A Indianapolis, IN 46201) using your own vehicles. Important note: Exodus cannot reimburse for mileage at this time. Please make sure that your vehicle has a sufficient amount of room to transport large quantities of groceries. Phase 2: Organizing the Food, taking to the Hotel! Date: Monday, November 22nd, 2021 Time: 2:30PM to 5:00PM Location: Exodus Refugee Immigration (2457 E Washington St. Indianapolis, IN 46201) Slots for this opportunity: 15 individuals Task (Please read fully): Organize the purchased food at the Exodus Office. Volunteers who sign up for this opportunity will meet at the office and divide the purchased food into categories by family unit in one of our Conference Rooms. Please plan to spend a significant amount of time standing, bending, lifting, and moving groceries ranging from light-weight to moderate-weight. After all of the food is correctly organized per family unit, then volunteers will be asked to help transport the food to a hotel (TownPlace Suites, 629 Russell Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46225) where our Afghan friends will be staying at. The hotel staff will assist in unloading the food and placing in appropriate rooms. Important note: Exodus cannot reimburse for mileage at this time. Please make sure that your vehicle has a sufficient amount of room to transport large quantities of groceries. For those of you who are able to join us, we sincerely thank you so much!
