ABOUT THIS PROGRAM: The Intermediate Course is designed for registered nurses with a minimum six months clinical nursing experience using fetal heart monitoring technology in an intrapartum setting. It is expected that the participant already has basic knowledge and related skills in the following areas:
Maternal physiologic changes in pregnancyFetal growth and developmentMethods of fetal monitoringPreparation of patient for set-up and initiation of external or internal fetal monitoringObtaining and maintaining tracings that document fetal heart rate and uterine contractionsInterpretation of uterine contractions frequency, duration and baseline resting toneIdentification of the baseline fetal heart rate, variability and deviationsIndicated clinical interventions Communication and documentation strategiesCOURSE OBJECTIVES
Analyze fetal heart rate patterns, uterine activity and the implications of each for fetal well-being.Discuss indicated clinical interventions and related maternal-fetal physiology.Effectively communicate verbal and written data about patient status.Describe the roles and responsibilities of healthcare providers in the use of FHM in intrapartum care.Demonstrate the psychomotor skills used in FHM.REGISTRATION FEE includes AWHONN Fetal Heart Monitoring. Principles and Practices student guide, continental breakfast and lunch.
18 contact hours and 15.25 hours of continuing medical education have been approved for this program through AWHONN
