We take advantage of winter’s exposure and access with monthly hikes taking you off-trail for great adventures. This trip: Eno Wilderness.
Eno River State Park holds a spot dear to many in the Triangle area; on fall weekends in particular, the trails from the Fews Ford Access are packed with hikers seeking fall color. The first half mile of our adventure experiences those crowds. Then, we head down a long abandoned road and don’t see anyone for the next three hours as we pass old homesteads, walk along a rocky creek through a beech forest, climb a remote peak and basically lose ourselves in the 820-acre Eno Wilderness.
With this hike you will receive an eguide, including a map, route description and information about the area and its history.
You must be in good condition to do this hike, which will cover 5-7 miles of rolling terrain. Wear long pants, bring at lease two bottles of water, snacks and dress appropriate for the weather.
Part of the two-state GetHiking! network, we offer a variety of options for getting people out on the trail — for an hour, a day, for the weekend.
